この曲はベツレヘムで生まれた救い主キリスト様の歌として有名ですが、
讃美歌では98番 『あめにはさかえ』、聖歌では123番 『きけやうたごえ』、
Hymnでは No.133 がこの歌、『Hark! the Herald Angels Sing』です。

因みにこの曲はドイツ初期ロマン派の天才作曲家、
フェリックス・メンデルスゾーン（1809-1847）が作曲しました。
元々この賛美歌は『Festgesang』（1840）というカンタータ中の１曲で、
賛美歌用に編曲したのは英国デヴォン州シドベリー生まれの英国人、
ウィリアム・H・カミングス（1831-1915）であった。
メンデルスゾーンがこの曲をデヴォンで自身の指揮により演奏したことが、
カミングスがこの曲を手掛ける直接のきっかけとなったのであろう。
